MIS Quick Guidelines for New Buildings

(See Data Communication Infrastructure Specification)

  1. If electronics will be supplied:

    1. 12 strand multi-mode OM4 fiber and (Cat 6a) copper connections

    2. Fiber electronics (10 Gbps or greater) between new buildings and existing network fiber will be used when connecting separate buildings together

    3. POE+ Switches (1 Gbps or greater) with enough ports for existing hardware

    4. UPS protection on electronics

    5. Aruba or Ruckus switches

  2. Building shall have 8 drops or more per classroom/office, other room will be fitted as needed. Consultation of MIS or School technicians for placement of drops/electrical requirements.

  3. Drops will be labeled and documentation will be supplied to MIS.

  4. Properly secured wiring closets and server room will be supplied as needed. (not to be used for other non electrical/mechanical purposes).

  5. Adequate air conditioning will be supplied to servers/wiring closets.

  6. Comply with requirements of TIA/EIA 568B
