February 15th is recognized as 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗘 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗗𝗔𝗬. We thank the dedicated women and men of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and the Sebring Police Department for their service to our schools, and for keeping students and staff safe each day. You are all a tremendous part of our school family, and we are grateful for you!
Today we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. To honor his memory, and his dream for all children, we strive to instill critical thinking and character in our students, nurturing the future generations that Dr. King envisioned.

Yesterday, Superintendent Longshore and Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman made a special presentation to 5th grader Justin Snyder. There was a potential incident at his school earlier this year that was quickly and safely resolved because Justin knew that the right thing to do is "when you hear or see something, say something!" Thank you Justin!

The School Board of Highlands County and its schools use a variety of methods to contact you to keep you informed. Beginning soon, our 5-digit texting code will change to 98900. We encourage you to store this number as a contact so you always know that it is from the district and our schools! You'll receive a welcome message on Wednesday (11/29) from this number. When messages come from a school they will always begin with the school's three initials so you know which school is messaging you. No reply is required when you receive this welcome message. Remember to always keep your information up to date in the school offices.
Just after 9:00 am this morning at Lake Placid High School, a student reported potentially seeing another student in possession of a weapon. The school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, and law enforcement responded immediately. Lake Placid Middle and Lake Placid Elementary were also placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to their proximity to LPHS.
After a thorough investigation by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that this was not a credible threat. There was no student with a weapon, and there had never been any danger to students or staff.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. All potential threats against a school are immediately and thoroughly investigated, and we encourage students to always report anything they see or hear regarding a threat against the safety of others.
𝗟𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗗 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: The Controlled Campus at Lake Placid High School has been lifted, and normal school operations have resumed at all three in-town Lake Placid schools- LPE, LPMS, and LPHS.
𝗟𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗗 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: The Controlled Campus has been lifted at LPMS and LPE. All normal school operations are resumed. Lake Placid High remains under a Controlled Campus while the investigation into an alleged threat is concluded. Movement is limited at LPHS but classroom instruction is proceeding as normal.
𝗟𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗗 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: The lockdown at LPHS, LPMS, and LPE is lifted. All three schools are under a Controlled Campus. Movement is limited, and classes go on as normal. The lockdown was a precautionary measure while the potential threat was investigated by law enforcement.
Lake Placid High, Lake Placid Middle, and Lake Placid Elementary are currently on lockdown as a precautionary measure as the result of a student reporting that another student had made a threat. Law enforcement is investigating. There is no active situation, this is a precautionary measure.
